A fixed skylight is the simplest option when you want natural light and a view of the sky but don’t need the unit to open. VELUX offers deck-mounted (FS), curb-mounted (FCM), and self-flashed fixed styles, and the right one depends on your roof and the opening.
Pros: nothing to operate, and a clean look. Cons: no ventilation, and the route from roof to ceiling still has to work. Verdict: Buy when daylight is the only goal and the location works.
2. VELUX Fresh Air skylights: best for daylight plus ventilation
Fresh Air skylights open to let hot or humid air out. They come in manual, electric, and solar-powered versions. VELUX documents remote control and a rain sensor that closes the unit when rain is detected on its electric and solar models.
Pros: light and airflow from one opening, and powered models are easy to use on high ceilings. Cons: an operable unit adds a control decision, and a manual unit has to be within reach. Verdict: Buy for kitchens, baths, and upstairs rooms that trap heat.
3. VELUX Sun Tunnel® skylights: best for small interior spaces
A Sun Tunnel brings daylight from a small roof opening down a rigid or flexible tube to a ceiling diffuser. It’s not a window you look through, which makes it a good fit for hallways, closets, and interior bathrooms where a full skylight isn’t practical.
